Died: January 3, 2008
Unit: Army, Military Transition Team, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
Incident: Killed when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire during combat operations in Sadiyah.

Died: January 2, 2008

Incident: Killed when a makeshift bomb detonated near his vehicle in Kamasia.

Army Spc. John P. Sigsbee, 21, of Waterville, N.Y.; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division
(Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died Jan. 16 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds sustained from grenade and small-arms fire during combat operations. Also killed were Pfc. Danny L.
Kimme and Pfc. David H. Sharrett II.

Vicenza, Italy; died Jan. 26 at Forward Operating Base Fenty, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from small-arms fire in Waygul, Afghanistan.

Marine Lance Cpl. James M. Gluff, 20, of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune,
N.C.; died Jan. 19 in Anbar province, Iraq, while conducting combat operations.

N.C.; died Jan. 22 in Kirkuk, Iraq, of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident during convoy operations.

Army Sgt. Tracy Renee Birkman, 41, of New Castle, Va.; assigned to the 626th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.;
died Jan. 25 in Owesat, Iraq, from non-combat-related injuries.

Army Sgt. James E. Craig , 26, of Hollywood, S.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; died Jan. 28 in Mosul,
Iraq, of wounds sustained when his unit encountered an improvised explosive device during convoy operations. Also killed were Staff Sgt. Gary W. Jeffries, Spc. Evan A. Marshall, Pfc.
Brandon A. Meyer and Pvt. Joshua A.R. Young.
